The pact will unlock avenues for a decarbonized transport and cleaner manufacturing ecosystem
Ranchi, 16 May 2024: The Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the OMI Foundation to bolster sustainable mobility practices and champion just transition-based solutions in Jharkhand and beyond. The groundbreaking partnership marks a significant milestone in fortifying the state’s endeavours towards low-carbon development pathways, fostering a future that is both environmentally sound and socially inclusive. The pact, inked by Mr. Ramapati Kumar, CEO of CEED, and Ms. Aishwarya Raman, Executive Director of the OMI Foundation Trust, underscores a steadfast commitment to catalyzing transformative change in the mobility sector.
Under the MoU, CEED and the OMI Foundation will embark on researching and piloting sustainable mobility-based innovations and advancing clean transportation mechanisms. By serving as a technical partner to the Task Force on Sustainable Just Transition (Government of Jharkhand), CEED is exploring the avenues for sustainable mobility across the state, driving a holistic decarbonization process in the transportation sector, and nurturing a cleaner tech-based manufacturing ecosystem in the state.
Proudly announcing the partnership, Mr. Ramapati Kumar, CEO at CEED articulated, “We are immensely glad to collaborate with the OMI Foundation, one of the pioneer institutions in the sustainable mobility sector. Our initiative is centred on crafting a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable mobility by fostering cutting-edge research and innovations at the sub-national level. We envision sustainable mobility that transcends borders, empowering communities and stakeholders, and championing carbon-neutral transportation to support the journey towards sustainable just transition.”
Echoing this resolute stance, Ms. Aishwarya Raman, Executive Director at OMI Foundation Trust emphasized, “Embracing clean mobility is imperative for our collective future. From focusing on the transition to electric vehicles to the adoption of future fuels like green hydrogen and biofuels, we are shaping a paradigm shift in transportation. Our commitment extends beyond mere transition; we strive for just transformation across the automotive, transport, and energy sectors, fostering a women and disability-friendly inclusive society.”
Ms. Raman further emphasized that this partnership will catalyze collaborative efforts in clean transportation, and play a pivotal role in augmenting initiatives on energy transition, tech know-how sharing, joint pilot studies, and developing pathways by aligning with the vision of the Task Force and the state government in Jharkhand.
The partnership signifies a monumental leap towards a climate-resilient future for Jharkhand through innovative solutions and collaborative synergy. The event was attended by representatives of CEED and OMI Foundation namely Neha Gupta, Dipanjan Raut, Pradeep Karuturi, Prakash Gupta, Manish Ram, Ashwani Ashok and key stakeholders working to augment the sustainable mobility initiatives in the state.
