Jharkhand has long been supporting the country’s energy security and industrial growth. The state is susceptible to climate risks and has economic dependence on fossil-fuel powered ecosystems. The global push and national climate goals towards a climate-resilient and greener economy necessitates a strategic shift towards a low-carbon future. For resource-rich regions, a conventional approach focusing solely on emissions reduction will not be sufficient. A people-centric strategy is essential that acknowledges the region’s complex socio-economic realities. In such a scenario, just transition finds a resonance as a multidimensional, comprehensive process that underpins ecological balance with holistic socio-economic development.

Objectives of the Workshop

The framework aims to foster a shared understanding among government departments and agencies, industries, businesses, trade-unions, workers, civil society and communities, enabling them to address region-specific challenges while unlocking opportunities for sustainable growth, inclusive development, and climate resilience.
A framework is critical for shaping well-structured and inclusive policies that can navigate the complexities of Just Transition.
