Background

The eastern states of India, including Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal, rich in mineral resources and historically significant contributors to India’s energy and industrial sectors, now face the complex task of navigating towards a low-carbon future. These states, rich in mineral resources, face significant climate vulnerabilities.

Recognizing the need for collaborative solutions, the Task Force on Sustainable Just Transition, the Government of Jharkhand, and its technical partner Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED) organized a workshop titled “Facilitating Transition for Climate Resilience: Regional Perspectives & Learning”, which witnessed the participation of senior officials of various departments of the Government of Odisha, Government of West Bengal, and the Government of Chhattisgarh.

Objectives of the Workshop

Discuss pathways for energy transition, decarbonization, and low-carbon development to enhance the region’s readiness for a sustainable future.
Explore key strategies for reducing emissions, including developing green hydrogen ecosystems and advancing sustainable mobility solutions.
Share lessons and experiences on sustainable livelihood opportunities and innovative economic development approaches, emphasizing the transition towards a greener economy.
