New Delhi, 30th May 2016: Today E-Rickshaw union joined the ‘Help Delhi Breathe’ campaign to mobilize support for solar roof top and curb air pollution in the city. Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED) is running ‘Help Delhi Breathe’ campaign to curb air pollution in the city. Approximately 700 Auto Rickshaws are already participating in the campaign.
While flagging off E-Rickshaw, Mr. Naveen Mishra of CEED said “we welcome E-Rickshaw to be part of the campaign and it is heartening to note that despite their own zero pollution foot print, they have taken responsibility to mobilize support for clean energy and thereby improving the Delhi’s air quality”.
At present, Delhi is facing power cuts that has been witnessed in every part of Delhi. Delhi is in a good position to take the leadership by generating electricity through solar roof top program. Just 36 square kilometers or mere 2.42 % of Delhi’s total roof-space can generate more than 2,500 MW of electricity through sun. Delhi can also reduce 2 million tons of Co2 (carbon dioxide) by switching to sun, and it will improve the overall air quality too.
“The support of e-Rickshaw has made our campaign stronger. The support will go long way to create awareness for clean energy and clean air in Delhi. It also suggests the growing awareness about the alarming effects of air pollution on health which has brought the e-rickshaws together to mobilize the masses and take our cause forward”, Mr. Mishra concluded.
CEED urged government to immediately implement solar roof top program. Its adoption will serve the government’s twin purposes of making city’s air clean & breathable; and create a new job stream in the already saturated employment sector in Delhi.
