Air pollution is growing alarmingly in Dhanbad


CEED urges the government to prepare Clean Air Action Plan for Dhanbad

2 June 2019, Dhanbad: Center for Environment and Energy Development (CEED) organized Stakeholder awareness and sensitisation workshop on ‘Air Quality Crisis and Public Health impacts”’ in the city today to discuss the various strategies for air quality management and public health protection. The workshop, which was an attempt to create awareness among stakeholder, also discusses policy, regulatory and technological interventions to reduce rising pollution. The experts from the workshop recommended for a regional approach to control air pollution and urged government for city specific Clean Air Action Plan.

While highlighting the air quality of Dhanbad, Ms Ankita Jyoti, Senior Program Officer of CEED said that air pollution is at worrying level in Dhanbad.  The air quality of city is hovering above the national level and immediate action required not to let it slip further. The state government and city administration needs to take note of alarming situation and prepare clean air action plan, which is ambitious, effective and focuses on time-bound implementation. Further she said, it’s important for us to reverse this trend where health and lives of our people are at stake.

Ms. Jyoti urged the government to address this grave environmental concern by formulating Clean Air Action Plan. The Clean Air Action Plan, like any other enforcement framework should have a set of action priorities as per the emission source, recognized regulations, and management measures for the mitigation of air pollution; along with institutional arrangement, she concluded.

The workshop has witnessed a versed discussion by bringing together representatives from media, academicians and civil society to share knowledge and mobilize action for cleaner air and better health.

State of Jharkhand with watertight policies and well defined targets.
